Frequently Asked Questions

WHY DO YOU TEACH KUNDALINI YOGA?

First off – Kundalini yoga is an experience. I will gladly share all the benefits that come with this practice but ultimately this is a yoga that each person must come to understand through experience. Kundalini Yoga offers specific sets of exercises (kriyas) that balance our glandular system, strengthen our nervous system and detox the body. Furthermore, there is a subtle stamina and strengthening of the body that builds in a foundational fashion so that other forms of exercise or self care are maximized. Furthermore, there are kundalini yoga meditations to build our emotional intelligence, heal from trauma, build our confidence, align our chakras and bring us closer and closer to our truest selves. While Kundalini Yoga struck me as the yoga most closely related to my career of Occupational Therapy, it struck me hardest in the heart. Practicing Kundalini Yoga has brought me an expansive, peaceful and healing experience time after time, and I can’t wait for it to offer you the same.

IS THE YOGA YOU TEACH ACCESSIBLE/MODIFIABLE?

Absolutely! It brings me comfort and joy to share that I have practiced kundalini yoga + meditation with a variety of populations. It is not uncommon for people that are physically disabled, neurodiverse or yoga beginners to attend my classes. Each offering has the intention and capability of individualization – if you need to change an exercise or take a break altogether to focus on your breath, that’s yoga! You are building the relationship with the body, meeting yourself where you’re at and laying a stronger foundation for the long run. And if by chance you want to modify for increased challenge, the option is always there. We all have days where we can give a little more and days where we simply need to receive. I invite you to honor your experience for what it is, whenever you join.er here.

WHAT IF I’VE NEVER MEDITATED BEFORE?

NO WORRIES! There is no wrong way to meditate and no pressure regarding when to meditate. Meditation is a practice that evolves over time. When I began my journey with meditation, I was happy to find there were many ways to meditate (mantra, movement, breathwork and more). More importantly, there is no way to do it incorrectly. Showing up is most important. There are some days that I drop into meditation that brings peace, presence and purpose. Other days, I can’t stop thinking about my to-do list, what I’m going to eat for dinner or fidgeting in my seat. This is why meditation is a practice. Typically, you experience progressive amounts of peace as you continue to practice. No matter what, it serves you immensely to pause long enough to have a moment for You. If you’re looking to begin a meditation practice, let’s get together to find and design the just-right practice for you.

WHY DO YOU SAY “SAT NAM” AND “WAHE GURU” ALL THE TIME?

These are both two powerful and fun mantras often used in the Kundalini world. Sat Nam means “truth” and Wahe Guru means “bliss.” When we are connected to our truth or experiencing bliss, we feel truly alive and can honor the light in ourselves and in others. Sat Nam often serves as a form of greeting between yogis, or chanted to conclude a kundalini class. Wahe Guru is a way to share excitement! So, when you arrive to class and I greet you with a Sat Nam, know that you are sending a Wahe Guru vibe right through my heart!
